South Korean Educators Visit FHU to Rekindle Relationships With Christian Universities
Despite an unexpectedly snowy day in Henderson, four South Korean educators from Gangseo University, formerly Korean Christian University, enjoyed a warm visit to FHU in February. Dr. Yongjae Kim, president; Dr. Youngran An, provost; Dr. In-Soo Jeon, director, The Institute of the History of Church of Christ; and Dr. Deuk-Kyu Lee, director, The Office of External Cooperation, traveled to the United States in order to rekindle relationships with other Christian universities associated with the Churches of Christ. Their university was originally started by missionaries in the 1950s.

President David Shannon welcomes the South Korean guests to the FHU campus.
President David R. Shannon and several other FHU representatives met with the group over a period of two days, enjoying meals, fellowship and discussions about potential collaborative opportunities between the two institutions. In addition, the visitors were able to tour the Hatchett Investment Team’s finance lab, the photography studio, the Tarbet Bible collection, the College of Biblical Studies, the Jones Family Dining Hall and the Hope Barber Shull Academic Resource Center. They were also treated to a few songs by members of the FHU Chorale.

The visiting educators were able to rebuild friendships with American Christian universities.
“The FHU family made a snowy day a delightful time with our new friends,” Shannon said. “Our home became theirs. One unexpected highlight was taking headshots with Jud Davis—proving that laughter truly is a universal language. They were fascinated by the Tarbet collection of Bibles and were so impressed hearing our students sing and learning of their academic success as well as their spiritual lives. They arrived on campus Tuesday evening as strangers and departed Wednesday afternoon as friends.”
Although separated by roughly 6,900 miles, the two schools were brought closer together by the power of relationships and shared goals for Christian education around the world.
